We have had great success with our recently inaugurated automated self-service "favorite homework pictures" page which allows school kids to get instant permission, but we haven't yet figured out how to accomplish this for other requests, which can be much more varied and complex — please bear with us if we need to do custom image preparation to accommodate your request for publication or other use.  We'll do our best to help if you will tell us about your project and let us know exactly what you need (in your first e-mail, please). Before sending an e-mail, please read the User Agreement because all use of this website and any related activity, including sending us messages, is governed by the CPRR.org User Agreement – so you should read the terms and conditions carefully because you are bound by them.

This can be very time consuming for us, so to avoid any possible misunderstanding:

• By clicking "I AGREE" below, I agree to be bound by CPRR.org's User Agreement, which is our entire agreement, and:
• I understand that my request is an order, that payment is required, and e-mailing my permission request may cause CPRR.org to expend considerable scarce resources trying to respond to my request, which may include locating and retrieving images, researching, verifying availability, and rescanning and reprocessing images to expedite or confirm feasibility of fulfilling customized image requests, or to accommodate schedules or potential deadlines.  So, I am committing myself (and my organization, if any), to use and immediately pay for the requested "License to Reproduce Still Images under the CPRR.org User Agreement" which I am now ordering.  Please send me an electronic invoice for my order, if my request is granted.  I have examined, chosen, and approved the digital images that I am requesting and understand and agree that images or other content are not offered "on approval" so I must pay use fees and damages if I later renege, saying, for example, that I changed my mind and don't want the pictures that I asked for ... , I didn't read the contract and didn't understand I was placing an order ... , last minute changes may result in an image being omitted, ... and/or that I can't afford to pay.  (Sorry about all the cautions, but a few visitors have been unbelievably irresponsible with their permissions requests, so we must give fair warning that squandering our limited resources will be very expensive.  We've added this page only after one visitor refused his partially completed order for fifty pictures, in the process wasting four days of our time.)
• I understand that there are thousands of images on this website, so I am responsible for errors (and cannot reject an image as being the "wrong picture") resulting from my ignoring the ordering instructions: "Once you have finished deciding which picture(s) you are certain you will use, please write and tell us the web page's address (URL) where you found each picture that you want to license.  (Also tell us the picture's caption or description if there is more than one picture on that web page.)"
• I understand that I may not misuse permissions e-mails to shift commercial or publication image selection or research costs to CPRR.org without completing an order and that while there is no application fee and CPRR.org is happy to respond to questions and to subsidize preparation of historic images for licensed publication or commercial use, ultimately unproductive "non-request" requests saying, for example, However, before I order the image ... , I'm not placing an order yet ... , This is a general inquiry ... , This is NOT a request for permission ... , or the like are extremely time wasting and annoying, are often considerably more time consuming and error prone than complete applications, violate the "ORDERS ONLY! — ALL ORDERS FINAL!" policy, often lead to misunderstandings and disputes, and will result in my incurring charges which may exceed the cost of the order, and I agree not to feign shock and surprise when the bill arrives.  (See Abandoned application fee and Customized image non-use penalty).  [Please instead just tell us exactly what you need and any constraints in your first e-mail which we will treat as an order and will fill, if possible.] I also understand and agree that failure to use content or website modifications prepared and/or made available in response to my request will void any discount or fee waiver.
• I have read, understand, and agree to be bound without reservation by all the terms and conditions of the entire CPRR.org User Agreement and the linked Use Fee Schedule, have paid special attention to the information in the red box where I just clicked for permission after finding out the cost and seeing the details, and to the cautionary information that is in bold face, red, italic, and/or capitalized text in the User Agreement for emphasis, including in the permissions section, and am aware that images are supplied "as is" (all historic 19th century images show at least some signs of their age), there is no warranty, and that CPRR.org may require a dispute to be resolved by arbitration, and may publish information about deadbeats.
• I am aware of and agree to immediately pay the non-refundable and non-cancelable fees required for a license granting me permission for publication, commercial, and/or other requested use, subject to the fifty dollar per image minimum use fee (one hundred dollar minimum use fee for customized images), and any applicable rush, redelivery, or abandoned application charges, non-use penalty, and late fees/interest and wish to place an order for a license which I understand is a binding contract.
• I agree to abide by the CPRR.org User Agreement, and to use the requested images, but only in accordance with the CPRR.org User Agreement and only for the use requested in my application for permission.
