Detail of the cane presented to Lewis Metzler Clement by President Porfírio Díaz of Mexico.
Clement traveled to Durango, México, to report on the advisability of building a railroad to that city from the distant coal mines. While in México he was entertained at the Presidential Palace by President Porfírio Díaz who gave him a beautifully carved cane with Clement's initials and the seal of México.
