Central Pacific Railroad Fireman Cap Badge

Central Pacific Railroad Fireman Cap Badge

Railroad hat badge from the Central Pacific Railroad of California. This railroad cap badge was found by a bottle digger in the 1970's in Winnemucca, Nevada at the location of the old Central Pacific Railroad yards. Badge is made from brass and could have been nickel plated at one time but now has old surface patina of browns, reds and greens. Size is 15/16 by 3 3/16 inch, with old surface corrosion, bold markings "C.P.R.R., FIREMAN," end slots complete, arced corners and no backside markings. This style badge was used 1870's before the Southern Pacific Railroad was formed from the Central Pacific.

Hat badge from M.K. Ralston Collection.
