Railroads Shipped By Sea
 The ships arrived in San Francisco and the cargo was moved to smaller boats. These sailed up the Sacramento River. Here are schooners tied up to the dock at Sacramento unloading their cargo.

Altogether, 195 locomotives were known to have sailed to California by sea. Here is one engine turning around at the end of the track in the Sierra Nevadas.
