J.B. Silvis stereoviews. J.B. Silvis operated the Pacific Railroad Photograph car headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska from 1860-1880. He was the official photographer for The Union Pacific Railroad and was also partner with C.W. Carter 1867-1868.
Yellow stereoview cards imprinted:
"Views of the Pacific Rail Road"
"J.B.Silvis, Rocky Mountain Scenery"
On the back is the famous logo of the U.P.R.R.
Photograph Car.
The following views are all untitled.
??Devil's Gate Bridge, Weber Canyon
Comment: I do not think the view is of Devil's
Gate Bridge. I suspect it is of
American Falls, ID, in which case it was probably taken
by Tate after he
took over the Photograph Car from Silvis. Tate took the
Photo Car to Idaho
in '82 or '83. Tate mounted many of his views on Sivis'
cards. Otherwise it
might be a view of some other post-construction improvement.
